The Dallas Children's Advocacy Center (DCAC) serves the most severely abused children in Dallas County and provides national leadership on child abuse issues. The average DCAC client is a 9 year-old girl who has been sexually abused by someone she knows and trusts. Last year, the DCAC saw more than 2,000 children. The model used by the DCAC is nationally-recognized and incorporates all of the professionals who are involved in the investigation and prosecution of those who harm children. This means that children no longer have to go from agency to agency to tell their stories to law enforcement, prosecutors and Child Protective Services professionals.
All of these professionals are housed together within DCAC to enable severely abused children to tell their stories only one time to trained professionals who understand how to talk to children in an age-appropriate and developmentally-appropriate way. Additionally, professionals within the DCAC walls provide hope and healing through various forms of therapy (art, play and animal- assisted). The staff and partners of the DCAC are very grateful to the yoga community for supporting the healing of these very special children.
Byamacharya Bishnu Charan Ghosh was the first person to bring the ancient science of hatha yoga from the great sages and holy men – particularly his elder brother Paramhansa Yogananda (author of Autobiography of a Yogi), to the common people so that the they could also enjoy the benefits of hatha yoga. He founded Ghosh's Yoga College in 1923 and cured innumerable people of their ailments.
